GEORGIA SCOTT

Flute / Woodwind, Show Band Director, Grade 5 Band Program Co-Director

I can’t remember exactly when my musical journey began as there were instruments kicking around my house since before I was born. I can however, remember gaining 50 house points in Grade One for playing Advance Australia Fair on the trumpet at a school assembly. I come from a very musical family following in the footsteps of my father and older brother who also studied music. I wanted to start playing the flute in the fourth term of grade six. I had to convince my parents that I was serious by buying my own flute for $225 which was my life savings at eleven. My entire secondary education was a blur of rehearsals and performances where I played trumpet in Stage band and flute in Concert band. I eventually chose to concentrate on the flute for my tertiary studies.

My twenties and early thirties were spent doing countless gigs in pit orchestras, where I was required to play flute, clarinet and saxophone in various stage shows around Melbourne. I also used this time to further develop my performance credentials by attaining my A.mus.A,  A.C.T.L., and L.T.C.L through Trinity College London.

Over the years my professional focus has been on education with teaching appointments including Geelong Grammar School (Glamorgan) and Box Hill College of Music. I am able to gain a great deal of satisfaction from working with young people and seeing the emergence of musicians with flair and a passion for music. I’m lucky enough to have a rewarding teaching studio as well as co directing The Show Band and the highly successful Year Five Band Programme along side Adam Wesley. In addition to my professional life I also have the similarly rewarding task of being mum to my two young children; Alice (5) and Douglas (2).
